CreatorTo the Children Conceived During the COVID Pandemic
One day, when you have grown,
please ask your parents about your conception,
would you? Will you? Do you wonder?
Was it because they planned having you a long time ago,
and so, they refused to be delayed or deterred?
Was it because working from home they saved hours, each way,
so, they had more time to live and to give life?
Was it because in the fear of loss and death,
they wanted the life to continue, in its best,
freshest, and most vital form?
Or maybe they just hugged passionately (a little too long),
in the loneliness of distancing, because they were just the loving,
huddling, and touching people who reached out and found each other
in the brief moment of foreverness.
(Or maybe, as a friend told me, after years of futile efforts,
at the age of forty, she conceived on the same day
her father died of COVID, ventilator still huffing.)
Maybe you were just the miracle, the blessing, the wonder,
to ensure us human beings will live through the pandemic
and our civilization will be here, generation after generation.
